Until recently, January 1st was the age determining date for Girls AAU Basketball. However, this rule was amended at the 2007 Annual Convention and the date was changed to July 1st. 

The intention of the change is to better align AAU with grade levels and allow girls in the same graduation class to compete against each other. No grade exceptions were approved by AAU.

Age Determing Dates are as follows for the 2009 season:

8/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1999 (3rd grade)

9/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1998 (4th grade)

10/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1997 (5th grade)

11/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1996 ((6th grade)

12/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1995 (7th grade)

13/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1994 (8th grade)

14/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1993 (Freshman)

15/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1992 (Sophmore)

16/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1991 (Junior)

Open - Born on or after - July 1, 1990
